Ao-Hagi Plate - Aohagi Henpei Sara
The Ao-Hagi Vase - Aohagi Nishiki Tsubo is a piece in the Blue in Nature Japanese pottery collection by Susumu Notomi. The inventor of the blue Hagi-yaki technique, Notomi has been experimenting to capture various shades of blue, such as of the sky, the ocean, and the outer space. Notomi creates rich gradation from deep blue like indigo to pale blue like the white waves of the sea.

Notomi Susumu of Yamaguchi creates Ao-Hagi, which is characterized by its distinctively delicate and deep blue-reminiscent of the sky and ocean, or the blue of the outer spase .
Notomi creates Ao-Hagi by mixing soil with glase, and by altering the balance he brings about rich gradation form deep blue like indigo to pale blue like white wave of ocean.
Hagi Pottery: Hagiyaki Pottery (萩焼, Hagiyaki) is one of the most famous pottery in Japan. The skills for making this craft was imported into Japan from Korea in the early 1600s. Hagiyaki flourished during the Edo period (1603-1867) and was highly prized as tea wares for the tea ceremony.
